Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 11, 2026
This policy explains what information Two Bishops ("we", "our", "the app") collects when you use the app or website, why we collect it, and how to reach us with a question or a request about your data.
Information you provide by signing in
Two Bishops uses Google Sign-In as its account system. When you sign in, we receive your Google account ID, email address, and whether that email is verified, and we store those along with a display name and time zone you can change later. We don't request or store your Google profile photo or any other Google data.
Linking a Lichess account (optional)
If you choose to link a Lichess account, we store your Lichess account ID and username. If you turn on game syncing, we import the PGN of your Lichess games so we can compare them against your repertoire. A game's PGN is a standard chess record, so it also contains your opponent's Lichess username and rating at the time of the game — that's the same information anyone can already see on Lichess itself, not something we look up separately.
Content you create
Repertoire units and puzzle sets you upload or build — including any PGN files you provide — are stored so we can show them back to you and track your progress against them. This content is yours; we don't use it for anything beyond running the app's features.
Sessions
When you sign in, we issue a session token that keeps you logged in. On the web, it's held in a secure, browser-managed cookie; on mobile, it's held in your device's secure storage (the same system Android/iOS use for passwords). We don't share this token with anyone.
Crash and error reports
We use Sentry to learn about crashes and errors so we can fix them. These reports may include your internal Two Bishops account ID, but not your email or name, and we don't collect performance or session-replay data. We don't use any analytics or advertising tools — nothing in Two Bishops tracks you for marketing purposes.
Who else sees this information
We use a small number of service providers to run Two Bishops, and don't sell or share your information for advertising:
- Google — for sign-in.
- Lichess — for account linking and, if enabled, game syncing.
- Sentry — for crash and error reporting, as described above.
- Neon, Hetzner, and Cloudflare — the infrastructure providers that host our database, backend server, and website. They store or process data on our behalf; they don't use it for their own purposes.
How long we keep information
We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists. We don't currently have an automatic deletion schedule for inactive accounts.
Accessing or deleting your data
You can delete your account and all its data yourself, at any time, from the Profile screen in the app or at twobishops.app/profile on the web — sign in, then choose "Delete account." This immediately and permanently removes your profile, linked accounts, repertoire, and puzzle history. If you'd rather we handle it for you, or you have any other question about your data, email us at [email protected].
Security
We use HTTPS for all traffic between the app and our servers, and store session tokens securely as described above. As with any online service, no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
Children's privacy
Two Bishops isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
